Dreams and Reality.……Part II

Dreams and Reality.……Part II

In a recent post from last week I talked about my favorite book North to the Night by Alvah Simon.  One aspect of the book that I enjoy/admire is the fact that the author has a dream and is able to see that dream come true.

What are some dreams that you have?  What does it take to make those dreams a reality?

Be Positive: This is a big one.  Having that constant positive attitude about your dreams will be one of the biggest contributors to making them happen.  Being positive will create positive results.  Negative thoughts and attitudes will create negative results.

Always be working towards it:  Having a dream is one thing, but to actually see it happen, there needs to be work involved.  That work can be hard and maybe unpleasant at times, but knowing that what you are doing will pay off in the end, will help to get you through.  Being consistent with your efforts goes along with this.  There doesn’t need to be giant steps along the path.  Even small steps will get you closer.

Surround yourself with good people:  Attaining your dream may involve the help and guidance of others.  Having people around you that will contribute positive advice and assistance is key.  There are those out there that won’t see your vision and for whatever reason may try to discourage you or tell you it isn’t possible.  Stay away from those folks – not helpful.  Don’t waste your time trying to bring them over to your side.  Move on.

Stay flexible: Try not to be too rigid in how you think you need to see your dream become reality.  There may be bumps, detours, and roadblocks along the way, which at the time may seem to derail your journey, but how you react to these plays a big role.  Try to be flexible and take these in stride – who knows, they may lead you down a different path to your goal and one that may end of being even more rewarding. It may be the path you should have been on to begin with.

Be willing to fail: I think that many people are afraid to fail and, therefore, never start to make their dream come to fruition.  In most cases, there will be some failures along the way.  Out of those failures comes valuable experience and knowledge that can be used in the future.  Success is not possible without a failing first.

Be patient:  Attaining your dream may take some time.  We all like to have that instant gratification, but in most cases, we won’t see that dream happen instantly.  “Patience is a virtue” as the saying goes.  Either you have patience or you become one!

Never give up:  So you have a dream.  You are working at it, maybe even doing some of the things that I have mentioned above.  Are you getting closer?  Are you seeing results?  Are you discouraged?  There are times that giving up on a dream may seem like the only course of action.

Here are some quotes to help with keeping the dream alive.

“Don’t give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you.”  – John Wooden

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” – Gail Devers

“Never give up. And most importantly, be true to yourself. Write from your heart, in your own voice, and about what you believe in.” – Louise Brown

I hope this post may be of help for you to turn your dreams into reality. What are some of your dreams? I look forward to hearing from you.
