BCMC 2013 – San Antonio, Texas Is Here! Are You?
This year, the 2013 Building Component Manufacturers Conference (BCMC) is being held in San Antonio, Texas. A town rich in history, San Antonio is of course home to the Alamo. If you know anything about Unites States history, you know the Alamo represents intense fortitude.

I had the privilege of seeing this amazing historical landmark again last night. It is located in the heart of the downtown area. Amazingly enough, directly across the street is Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. I did not notice this on my last visit here several years ago. I find this amazing because both of them seem to defy what we call “reality”, in that they represent things that are outside of the normal stream of life.
Another beautiful scene in the downtown area is the area called Riverwalk. This beautifully intimate spectacle is a must-see for anyone new to the area. Loaded with shops and eateries, it is quite lovely. There is also a boat tour you can take to see the entire Riverwalk, if you do not want to walk the 2+ miles on foot.
However, my favorite thing so far was finding a Kosher restaurant! Green Vegetarian Cuisine has 2 locations in San Antonio. I visited the location at 200 E Grayson St., Suite 120, San Antonio, TX 78215, which was a little over 3 miles from my hotel. I chose to walk, to take in the sights. The food was amazing. The food was delicious! I purchased several meals worth and took it back to my hotel. I look forward to treating some of my colleagues to a meal there.
But of course, the most beautiful spectacle in all of San Antonio is what happens each year at the BCMC show. It is referred to as BCMC Build. This is where the attendees of the conference team up to build a house for someone during the time period of the show, to highlight the benefits of using components. The house is then given to someone for free! Click here to see pictures of this year’s endeavor.
In 2013, BCMC Build partnered with 3 reputable organizations to make this wonderful event happen:
- Operation Finally Home
- National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
- Members of the New Braunfels Home Builders Association
This year’s recipient is one of America’s finest. His name is Cody Nusbaum. During a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2011, Mr. Nusbaum was severely wounded, leaving him disabled. He has had to endure over 60 surgeries.
Perhaps the best part of this, is that is was a surprise! Cody did not find out until construction actually began happening this past Sunday. And he found out in front of over 100 people! What a tremendous sense of surprise he must have felt. A worthy gift to someone has protected my (and your) freedom.
This story was also covered via the local media. Click the links below to learn about it yourself.
I am happy to be here at the BCMC show and am looking forward to seeing what the industry will unveil for the upcoming year. I look forward to seeing you on the show floor!
