Hard Work and Success

Hard Work and Success

Does hard work result in success?  Good question.  On the surface I think the answer to the question is yes. In most cases hard work does result in a positive and successful outcome.  I do think that there are other factors that go along with hard work that help someone to be successful.

Thomas Edison put it this way: “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”

Some may say that luck plays a part in success.  Maybe that’s true, but I think that Thomas Jefferson made a good point when he said “I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it”.  Other factors that contribute to success – Passion, focus, ideas and persistence.

Before you can really answer the question you have to define what you would consider as being successful.  Success has different meanings for people.  Lots of money and a big house?  CEO of a Fortune 500 company? Winning a state championship for your high school?  Leading a team of people on mission work in a third world country?  Operating a soup kitchen in the inner city? I think all these scenarios can be an example of a successful person.  In these examples, people have set goals and/or had a desire to achieve a certain outcome that they deem to be successful.  Along the way to get to the desired outcome, there is hard work that must be done to get there.  These accomplishments don’t happen by sitting back and waiting for things to happen.  Success

Does hard work always end in success?  Not necessarily.  There are many people who may work hard for years at a certain vocation, but may not be “successful”.  This could be due to circumstances beyond their control, the part of the world they are working, or simply a lack of desire to get beyond where they are.

On balance, I do believe that working hard plays a big part in making one successful.  It may take time and there will be setbacks along the way, but you will see the positive results from your hard work.
